If You Only Knew Me is a story of friendship, passion and intrigue set in Dubai, arguably one of the world’s most exciting cities to live in. Rupali, Anjali, Dipika, Sakina and Monica are five NRI women whose lives are glitzy and exciting as they flirt with high society within the charmed social circles frequented by the Dubai expat community. Beautiful homes, designer clothes, shoes, fast cars and a lifestyle that is envied by all, there is very little these women have not attained. Together they have also woven the closest of friendships and must rely on each other to stay on top. Appearances are deceptive, though, and often the people you think you know the best, harbor secrets too dangerous to be shared. When tragedy befalls, the investigation that follows opens an ugly box of secrets that will test their friendship and find them struggling to make sense of the madness and deception surrounding them. Who can they really trust anymore? How far must they go in their fight for survival? How long will their friendship last once the masks have dropped and none can pretend any longer?
My View:
“The greatest gift of life is friendship“. This is the story of five ladies(expatriate) who know each other close to ten long years from a high class society in Dubai who were once from the middle class families.
Are they friends ? Hmm..!!! May be… May not be…
A life formula which I always believe “The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them.”. These lines do find some connection in the story.
What ? Why ? How ?
This book answers you more.!!!
Not to reveal too much on the book, author throws a Strong message to the readers that “money can make or break many things in life”, This book portrays relationship or friendship profoundly, this equally offers mystery in the story-line. I personally liked Sakina’s and Shufa’s characterization in the book. It also serves as a guide to Dubai which introduces many places as the story proceeds.
Cover page looks quite interesting, which indirectly hints the story by FIVE female faces with different shades and expressions, which readers can closely relate to its blurb and plot.
Overall I rate “You Only Knew Me – Divyata Rajaram” a 3.75/5, gripping story-line, perfect page turner, coruscating illustration of emotions though the dosage is more than required, one time read, decent pace, satisfactory vocabulary and competent characterization.
